Create an API so we can programmatically create timelines
I'd love to be able to create (and update!) timelines via some kind of REST interface. This would allow any number of cool real time projects!

[Allow vertical drad and drop at timeline graph in order to] sort events within a layer
It would be fine to be able to sort the events belonging to a layer, and it would be great if it could be done directly in the graph.
I guess a good workaround for that would be definind different layers, as layers can be sorted, but too many layers is not the ideal...

Interesting idea. There are a lot of possibilities for how to make the timeline more interactive, but I’m not sure which I’m going to implement yet. I’m waiting on more feedback.

allow export timelines
allow export timelines for offline editing in a spreadsheet programme, after that it can be reimported via existing importoption.
For example to change color of 30 events can be time consuming without such a solution.20 votes -
combining timelines
it would be great to combine layers from multiple timelines into a "combined" timeline.
I have timelines for work, housing, cars, classes, and it'd be neat to combine them into "life".
I guess I should have just started out with one timeline...

Flexible events & copy events
1 A very nice feature, would be if an existing event could be extended through a simple mouse drag (similar to Microsoft Visio Gant Charts).
By dragging the event indicator it would be much easier for events to be rescheduled. A tooltip to see when is an event being shifted is a bonus.
2. As in title, you might have similar project for two different layers, so having a copy option for events is a much needed feature.
Thanks,

Copy an event already created
Copy one created and then to have the possibility to change the data inside not to introduce all again in a lot of the cases...

Generate PDF from private timelines
Your site indicates one must make the timeline public to generate PDF, and then says you can change it back to private afterwards. That is just not sufficient. Once made public it is out there--there is no way you can guarantee otherwise. So to me (and probably to others) you effectively do not have a PDF generator, which makes your site a lot less interesting.

Let users define meanings to colors
Let users assign a meaning to each of 16 colors,
end display a small legend of these colors/meanings
underneath the timeline.14 votes -
permit showing and hiding of layers with a checkbox on the "Layer Order" page
... as in Photoshop (for example).

allow editing by double clicking on an event
Currently event editing is only possible by scrolling down to the event list and clicking "edit". Would be much more straightforward to allow editing by double clicking on an event where it appears in the timeline.

Layer-level Security
Hide individual layers of a timeline.
For example, I can make the 'location' and 'education' layers of my 'life' timeline public, but hide the relationships layer.

Allow Zoom In and Out via Mouse Scroll
Just like Google Maps
You can have Mouse Scroll button zoom or a drag able bar on the side. Also, just like Google Maps, the timeline should be sensitive to the location of the cursor when the Scroll is used - that way it will not just zoom in or out, but do so directing to that specific location.

Allow for the addition of months and days in years BC
For some part of ancient history, particularly ancient Greece and Rome, we have months and days for specific events. Can you include the power to name these months and dates in the timeline? I tried to add March 5, 1223 BC to the timeline, and couldn't.

make it possible to copy events to a different timeline
events that occur in more than one timeline, I have to input from scratch. Why not make it possible to copy an event to a different timeline

Drag events between layers
After creating an event it would be useful to be able to drag them between different layers

Allow to save and import timeline locally
Allow to save your timeline to your local computer - and import the timeline as well.

I assume you just want an image of whatever portion of the timeline you see on the screen at the time you export it, correct? I ask because that may be possible, but saving a draggable timeline to your computer is unfortunately not possible.
